I always told people I didn't become a marine biologist (my childhood dream) because I thought I'd be too afraid to SCUBA dive. I thought I'd have a weird mix of claustrophobia and thalassophobia (don't Google that in the dark). But, back in 2016 I was seriously considering going back to school for marine biology, so I decided to face my fears and get certified. I found the Sea Shanty dive shop in Norman, OK, and got certified with Dana Drake as my instructor.

I can safely say that it's one of the best decision I've ever made.

​

Although I've not gone back to school for marine biology, I've seen some pretty amazing things, made lifelong friends, and gotten reference photos for colorful travel paintings from the other 71% of the planet.

So if you're one of those people who's afraid of diving or water or whatever but has the tiniest desire to learn to SCUBA dive...be afraid. And do it anyway. And call Dana because she's the best.
